HOLLYWOOD star Will Smith has thrown his support behind Barack Obama in the US Democratic Party race for the White House.

"He is the perfect choice for America's future,” said the 39-year-old actor in Berlin at a media event to launch his latest film, the science-fiction thriller, I Am Legend.

“My wife and I have met him a few times and support Senator Obama completely,” Smith said.
