The Obama re-election campaign rolled out the First Lady for a series of high-profile events on Monday, including a star-studded fundraising dinner, for which celebrities each paid $5,000. Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King, Angela Bassett and Ben Stiller also attended the event, joining producer Harvey Weinstein, who has reportedly donated more than $500,000 to the campaign. Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will be getting a windfall from some highly visible members of the celebrity jet set for their presidential race. Obama has won the support of Jennifer Aniston, Jackson Browne, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Dennis Haysbert, Tobey Maguire, Branford Marsalis, Eddie Murphy, Ed Norton, Ben Stiller and Gene Wilder, according to the national political journal the Hill. Meanwhile, Clinton will be getting payouts from Candice Bergen, Christie Brinkley, Chevy Chase, Hugh Hefner, Christine Lahti, Marla Maples, Rosie O'Donnell, Jerry Springer and Barbra Streisand. O'Donnell also contributed to Bill Richardson's campaign. Barry Manilow has contributed to both Obama and Clinton's campaigns. Other presidential candidates have also lined up high-profile

Moving right along, Kerry raised money with some big Dems at a sprawling beachside hacienda in La Jolla yesterday, including recalled Gov. Gray Davis and his wife Sharon. Other big names under the big top were former Secretary of State and L.A. lawyer Warren Christopher; former Carter adviser Midge Costanza; and Lynn Schenk, former San Diego congresswoman and former Davis chief of staff. But the real stars came out later Tuesday at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser, held at Ron Burkle's 50,000-square-foot mansion known as "The Green Acres" estate. Singer James Taylor entertained and Kerry earned an estimated $2 million to $2.5 million for the campaign. This rhetorical eruption came one day after Geffen—along with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, his partners in DreamWorks SKG—hosted a $2,300-per-person fundraiser for Obama at the Beverly Hilton, site of the glitzy Golden Globe Awards. An all-star cast Actors Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, and Christine Lahti also showed up. Singers Jackson Browne and the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines were there. And so were producers Norman Lear, Ron Howard, Lawrence Bender, producer of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth," and J.J. Abrams. The heads of several major studios also attended. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington bought tickets but did not show up.
