An eager Martin Bashir on Tuesday parroted vicious claims by a former Sarah Palin staffer and repeated attacks questioning the sincerity of the ex-governor's Christian faith. The MSNBC host offered almost no skepticism or tough questions. Instead, he chided, "Love thy neighbor? Not in Sarah Palin's playbook. Her former aide tells all."

The anchor explained that the book "casts real doubt on her personal faith and conduct." Bashir, who has proclaimed his own Christian faith, questioned Palin's: "And elsewhere in the book, you now say 'I never saw Sarah read or carry a Bible on any of our frequent travels, nor did she cite verses.'" He pressed, "So is this claim of Christianity a complete charade?"

BASHIR: Sarah Palin has repeatedly traded, as you know, on her Christian faith. In your book you write love thy neighbor? Turn the other cheek? Forgiveness? These New Testament concepts were not part of Sarah's Old Testament temperament. Both eyes for a eye was the rule and vanquishing enemies became a goal." What did you think of her desire for vengeance and that desire to be vindictive?

Martin Bashir Parrots Attacks on 'Vicious,' 'Paranoid,' Sarah Palin, Questions Her Faith

"President Obama has been taking a truckload of flak from the right for his measured response to the crises embroiling the Middle East," MSNBC's Martin Bashir harumphed as he opened his "Clear the Air" commentary on the March 1 program.

MARTIN BASHIR: Time now to clear the air. And President Obama has been taking a truckload of flak from the right for his measured response to the crises embroiling the Middle East. Measured is my word because it's certainly not one that right-wing pundits have been using. For instance, Paul Wolfowitz has criticized the administration's response to the conflict in Libya, saying "he situation calls for urgent action, not just improved rhetoric." And not to be outdone, Bill Kristol, Wolfie's former associate in that band of brothers known as neocons, says "the dithering of the Obama administration has raised a more fundamental question, have our elites become so encumbered by self-doubt, so weakened by sophistication, that they are incapable of acting decisively?"

But is the President really dithering or has he been deliberately cautious? Maybe he's been thinking about that pledge made by Paul Wolfowitz in 2002 that U.S. troops would be welcomed into Iraq with flowers, something that still hasn't happened. You see, I'm not so sure that their strategy of strike first, think later, is really all that effective when it comes to Middle Eastern patriarchs like Hosni Mubarak or Colonel Qadhafi. President Obama has actually managed to walk a careful line between encouraging protests without encouraging protesters to blame America for all their troubles. Indeed nobody is calling the United States the Great Satan, nor is anyone suggesting that America is responsible for the unrest. In fact, Qadhafi has been reduced to blaming al Qaeda and the elicit use of drugs for the protests. And who knows if he's right.

You see, Paul Wolfowitz and Bill Kristol may have short memories, but the President seems to know his history and particularly as it relates to Teddy Roosevelt. Speak softly and carry a big stick. He may even be thinking of the 18th century poet Alexander Pope who wrote those immortal words "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." And right now, the big stick is sailing toward Libya and to date, not a single American life has been lost. I think in today's circumstances cautious resolve is proving to be the better part of valor.

Martin Bashir has dared go where even most congressional Dems won't: praising Britain's National Health Service and by implication the socialization of medicine it represents.

On today's Morning Joe, Bashir said the National Health Service is "a wonderful idea." For good measure, the British-born Bashir, who hosts a regular afternoon slot in the MSNBC line-up, also vastly overstated the percentage of the British workforce employed by the government. He claimed that "over 40%" in the UK are "in the public workforce." In fact, as per this official-seeming website, the actual percentage as of last month was about half that, in the range of 20-22% [6 million public-sector workers out of a total workforce of 29 million].

MARTIN BASHIR: I think what you're seeing now as well is that unemployment, and Katty [Kay of the BBC] was referring to this, is going to increase now, because the state sector is going to start laying off people. From the first of April there were a number of cuts to be implemented. So, we've got a property market that's suppressed, we've got new construction which is down, and we've got the prospect of vast numbers of public sector workers being laid off. Remember, this country employs over 40% of its workforce in the public sector.

BASHIR: How many people do you think are employed by the National Health Service, which is a wonderful idea? Over a million people.
