Kal Penn
Kal Penn has joined the likes of Will.i.am, Jessica Alba, Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Will Smith in offering his support to the Democrat. Penn, who has been quietly campaigning for Obama at colleges and high schools all over America, says, "I'm not a registered Democrat, and I've never gotten motivated before, mostly because I wasn't a fan of the political establishment. But I was really inspired by Barack. I haven't been that inspired since hearing my grandparents tell stories about marching with Gandhi." And the actor is prepared to back Barack all the way to the White House: "I'm with the campaign until the man has a new address on Pennsylvania Avenue (Washington, D.C.)." The 2008 US presidential election nominee, Democrat Barack Obama, seems to be gaining support in the Indian-American community. UNIVERSAL CITY – A day after ending a campaign swing with Oprah Winfrey, Sen. Barack Obama rolled out celebrity supporters at a fundraiser where he promised to unite a divided country to take on issues from health care to education reform. The Illinois Democrat took the stage to thunderous cheers from a racially mixed crowd at a mostly filled 6,000-seat theater, after sets by R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo and rockers the Goo Goo Dolls. A lineup of speakers ranged from 86-year-old James Whitmore to the youthful Kal Penn. Obama with celebrity supporters, says

Voters in many of the Super Tuesday states, particularly on college campuses, shouldn't be surprised to see celebrities such as Robert DeNiro, who appeared today with Obama at a New Jersey rally, Kerry Washington, Usher, Chris Rock, Brendan Routh, Kate Walsh, Kal Penn and Tate Donovan speaking on Obama's behalf. Voters in California are getting phone calls from Ed Norton and Alfre Woodard; caucus-goers in Colorado might hear from Forest Whitaker. Enrique Marciano, who stars in CBS's Without a Trace, is campaigning for Obama with Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. Minnesotans might be shocked to see Scarlett Johansson knocking at their door. The campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama hit Thayer Street yesterday in the form of an actor best known for portraying a brilliant and often senseless stoner. But unlike the character he portrays in the "Harold and Kumar" movies, actor Kal Penn was mostly business in urging the roughly 70 students at Blue State Coffee to canvass for the Illinois senator. Penn, wearing a black fleece jacket with an Obama logo, took questions from the crowd for about half an hour, answering many with details about the candidate's platform and Senate record. "Something that really motivated me (to join the campaign) was that there's such an incredible amount of experience that Senator Obama's had in bringing people together and achieving what other candidates only talk about," Penn said.
