Liberal Hall of Shame
"We will take to the streets right now. We will delegitimize Bush, discredit him, do whatever it takes, but never accept him," Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000
Jackson said Bush must "end the occupation of Iraq and return sovereignty to the Iraqis as quickly as possible in cooperation with the United Nations and Europe," "The U.S. bias toward Israel and its support for (Ariel) Sharon's aggressive policies have obstructed peace and triggered violence and hate in the region," he said. "Last year, those who disagreed with the Bush campaign were on the enemies list for I.R.S. investigations," "This is an impeachable offense," Friday, Jan. 13, 2006 9:56 a.m. EST
Bush and Dole got more white votes than Clinton. But Clinton got more Black and Brown votes than they got...and he won. Democrats put a lot of emphasis on voter registration of Blacks, and on organized workers. Republicans put a lot of emphasis on voter suppression. In 2000, 1.9million votes were discounted. One million Black votes were not counted. Bush was awarded the election by “547” votes in Florida. Gore won the election. We did less than our best in fighting the voter stealing in Florida in 2000. But they are at in again, purging the rolls. We must not let it happen again. Address to the AFSCME Convention Reverend Jesse L.

"The Dream: A Call for the Moral Imperatives"
In this war we've lost lives and took lives. We are losing money and spending billions. We are losing honor and making corrupt contractors richer. It's clear that oil energy hegemony is more an issue than security. The idea of pursuing oil and regional hegemony as a pretext for a deadly war raises serious moral and legal questions. National security and peace can be worth a war. Not the arrogance of making the world after our own image. And now, the impact of this war has been to create a terrorist state with even greater capacity to spread terror throughout the region and the world. Today, Cindy Sheehan -- the mothers, parents and families cry out for a halt to this expensive madness and to bring our troops home now. Hurricanes triggered by environmental callousness wreak havoc, and our levees collapse for lack of investment in our own infrastructure. Let us seize this moment to go another way. This is a time to reassess a foreign policy that is foreign to our values. Speech at Peace March Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who lectured George W. Bush on having an "illegitimate" presidency, admits he has a 20-month-old daughter out of wedlock. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001
It is now clear to the world that the Bush Administration ignored or twisted the facts, lied and misled the country into war. Fueled by a unilateralist foreign policy ideology of its far right wing, President Bush’s policy of pre-emptive strike was wrong then, and it is wrong now. It launched this country on a new course, a foreign policy of pre-emptive war that marks a radical departure from the successful and efficient foreign policy that has guided our country so well for over two centuries. The U.S. thumbed its nose at the United Nations and most of our European allies, leaving the U.S. isolated in many quarters. In many ways, Iraq, the Middle East and the world are less – not more – secure. And now these same foreign policy hawks, from Wolfwitz to Rumsfeld to Rice, are threatening new military action against Iran and North Korea. The recent “elections” in Iraq have brought the country no closer to peace. Political chaos and uncertainty rule the day in Iraq. Violent attacks are increasing in quantity and sophistication. Our voice is clear: Not one more dime to continue the war and occupation in Iraq. Spend whatever it takes to bring our troops home. Congress must stand up for peace. This administration’s budget is not a moral budget. The Bush budget is “mansion down”, not “manger up.” And it is shameful that the Congress authorized an additional $81 Billion to fund the escalating costs of this immoral war, bringing the projected cost of the Iraq war to over $200 Billion, at a rate of $6 Billion a month. http://www.rainbowpush.org/FMPro?-db=rpodata.fp5&-format=rainbowpush%2fdata06%2fdetailpress.htm&-lay=main&-sortfield=date&-sortorder=descend&category |
