Actresses Jasmine Guy, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Tracee Ellis Ross
and Alfre Woodard made their way through the Palmetto State today to talk
to South Carolinians about why they believe Barack Obama is the one candidate
capable of delivering change we can believe in.
During a breakfast with Seniors at the Greenview Community Center in
Columbia this morning, Jasmine Guy, who visited the Low County this past
summer and is best known for her role as Whitley Gilbert on A Different
World, said she was behind Barack because:
He moves us closer to fulfilling the promise of what we want to be.
He makes each of us want to be more... and that's especially powerful
in a community that hasn't been truly engaged in a very long time.
Megalyn Echikunwoke, who currently stars in the sci-fi series 4400 and
was making her first trip to South Carolina for Barack, noted during that
same breakfast that the movement that has grown behind Barack has inspired
her and many of her friends to get involved with politics for the very
first time.
My friends and I wanted to get involved in this campaign because we
wanted to be able to say, "I was a part of that movement. I played a role
in making Barack Obama our President" and... for the first time we're
realizing that just because we're young doesn't mean we can't be involved
and taken seriously in this political process.
