Ford quotes Scripture in the speech and says Democrats "don't go using our Bible to go judge people." He then says: "My friend (U.S. Rep.) Lincoln Davis, who chairs our campaign, says there are . . . there's one big difference between us and misfortunate Republicans when it comes to our faith: He said that Republicans fear the Lord; he said Democrats fear and love the Lord." Barack Obama’s race won’t be a serious impediment to winning the South in the presidential elections, says Obama’s fellow African-American Democrat Harold Ford Jr. In a speech in Chicago on Tuesday, Ford declared that Democrats, including African-Americans, can carry Tennessee and other Southern states if they meet certain expectations, the Chicago Tribune reported. "You’ve got to fit in the mainstream on values issues,” said Ford, who is now chairman of the moderate Democratic Leadership Council. Wednesday, May 2, 2007 9:46 a.m. EDT
