There has been speculation that anti-war actors and actresses will use
the upcoming Oscars ceremony as a forum to put their message across. "I
hope they do. I think that would be fun," said Ethan Hawke, who rejected
the suggestion that the anti-war movement was unpatriotic. "I'm proud
to be an American," he said. "That's why I'm here. I want to go on being
proud of being an American."

TRAINING DAY star Ethan Hawke is calling on American men to reevaluate
their masculinity because he fears misguided he-men took the country to
war in Iraq.
The movie star and author has been critical of fellow Texan GEORGE W
BUSH during his term as US President and now the actor fears his leader's
attempt to be a big man resulted in war.
Hawke tells Playboy magazine, "I'm from Texas. I love cowboy hats and
riding horses. No American idealises all that more than I do.
"But when I see George W Bush walking around in his cowboy hat, I feel
it's time for some new kind of masculine identity.
"Masculine identity has been ruling the world for a long time. You could
make a case that it was needed at one time to keep people safe, build
buildings, make roads and conquer nature. But that masculine thing has
also led us to war.
Men like to fight.
"Men like to feel as if their d**ks are big, but, because of globalisation,
I think, in some fundamental way 'Might makes right' is over."

Outspoken movie star ETHAN HAWKE is desperate for a new MARTIN LUTHER
KING because he feels America needs another spirited leader. The BEFORE
SUNSET star believes the US would be in much better shape and his homeland
wouldn't be at war in Iraq if a strong voice of reason stepped forward.
The actor says, "We're in desperate need of a Martin Luther King, a MAHATMA
GANDHI, a NELSON MANDELA; the Middle East is in desperate need of somebody
to rise up and lead. "I always think about how nearly every major city
in this country has a Martin Luther King Boulevard, King's picture is
up in every classroom... and everyone universally admires him - but we
all know what he would say about the Iraq war. We turn a blind eye to
the things we know he would tell us."

ETHAN HAWKE - HAWKE: 'WE NEED ANOTHER MARTIN LUTHER KING'

War talk in Washington is alarming and unnecessary.
We are patriotic Americans who share the belief that Saddam Hussein cannot
be allowed to possess weapons of mass destruction. We support rigorous
United Nations weapons inspections to assure Iraq’s effective disarmament.
However, a preemptive military invasion of Iraq will harm American national
interests . Such a war will increase human suffering, arouse animosity
tow a rd our country, increase the likelihood of terrorist attacks, damage
the economy, and undermine our moral standing in the world. It will make
us less, not more, secure .
We reject the doctrine—a reversal of long-held American tradition—that
our country, alone, has the right to launch first-strike attacks.
The valid U.S. and U.N. objective of disarming Saddam Hussein can be
achieved through legal diplomatic means. There is no need for war. Let
us instead devote our resources to i m p roving the security and well-being
of people here at home and around the world.
