Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., left, waves as he campaigns with actor Robert DeNiro, right, at rally in East Rutherford, N.J., Monday, Feb. 4, 2008,

Voters in many of the Super Tuesday states, particularly on college campuses, shouldn't be surprised to see celebrities such as Robert DeNiro, who appeared today with Obama at a New Jersey rally, Kerry Washington, Usher, Chris Rock, Brendan Routh, Kate Walsh, Kal Penn and Tate Donovan speaking on Obama's behalf. Voters in California are getting phone calls from Ed Norton and Alfre Woodard; caucus-goers in Colorado might hear from Forest Whitaker. Enrique Marciano, who stars in CBS's Without a Trace, is campaigning for Obama with Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. Minnesotans might be shocked to see Scarlett Johansson knocking at their door.

Entertainment Tonight’s Mary Hart showed actors Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Ben Affleck, Helen Hunt and Martin Sheen campaigning for Gore in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania over the weekend. ET played a clip of Dreyfuss, best-known as "Elaine" on Seinfeld, shouting: "Vote for Al Gore Tuesday!" Affleck took a nice shot at Bush: "It’s hard for me to have a respect for a guy who never held a job until he was 40." Shortly before 1am ET this morning, C-SPAN showed live coverage of Affleck, Robert DeNiro and Glenn Close bashing Bush as they warmed up a Miami Beach crowd just before Gore arrived.

Barack Obama campaigns with actor Robert De Niro, Senator Edward Kennedy, and Caroline Kennedy at a rally Monday in East Rutherford, N.J.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Wait, wait, wait. Now Robert De Niro is for hope, too? This is really getting surreal.

De Niro, the dean of "Goodfellas" thuggery, just made a surprise appearance at a rally here for Barack Obama, using words that we didn't know were even in his vocabulary.

"I've never made a speech like this at a political event before. So what am I doing here?" De Niro said. "I'm here because finally one person has inspired me. One person has given me hope. One person has made me believe that we can make a change."

De Niro began his remarks with a backhanded compliment: "Barack Obama does not have the experience to be president of the United States." The crowd booed, but De Niro continued, and his intent was clear: Obama didn't have the experience to get the country into a misguided war, or operate a government run by special interests, and so on.

"You know, that's the kind of experience I could get used to," said De Niro, who stood clapping as Obama, Senator Edward Kennedy, and Caroline Kennedy mounted the stage, his trademark half-smile, half-scowl etched on his face. Allowing himself a moment off-character, he gave Obama a big hug, and descended.
