Anita Dunn, a top adviser to President-elect Obama, is returning to her
consulting firm — Squier Knapp Dunn — rather than take a post in the West
Wing, the firm announced.

House and was a top strategist on the campaign’s role at the Democratic
Convention, including the triumphal acceptance speech by then-Sen. Barack
Obama (D-Ill.) at Invesco Field at Mile High.

Squier Knapp Dunn Proud of Major 2008 Democratic Victories
SKD is proud to be a part of history in helping elect Barack Obama the
44th President of the United States. In addition, SKD helped elect four
U.S. Senators and five Members of Congress in some of the most challenging
races of the cycle. Two of these victories were recently listed in Politico’s
Top Ten Upsets of 2008.
Obama for America
SKD was pleased to welcome Anita Dunn back to the firm. Anita has served
as Senior Advisor/Chief Communications Officer for the Obama campaign,
and was featured in a 60 Minutes story about the campaign’s senior leadership
team. In addition, SKD was part of the Obama general election media team,
producing national and state-specific TV/mail advertising.
U.S. Senate Victories
SKD played a major role in electing four Senators. Mary Landieu was considered
the most vulnerable Democratic Senator and faced a tough re-election.
As Landrieu’s media consultant, SKD helped Landrieu win by her largest
margin, despite McCain winning Louisiana and Republican and third parties
spending over $3.5 million against her. In West Virginia, SKD helped re-elect
Jay Rockefeller to his fifth term.
For the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, SKD ads
played a major role in defeating Elizabeth Dole and Ted Stevens. In Alaska,
the ads Surveillance and Reel-to-Reel dramatically conveyed to Alaskans
the criminal case against Stevens. And in North Carolina, SKD produced
over $10 million in ads that have been widely credited with playing a
pivotal role in defeating Dole and been cited as among the best ads this
election cycle. Download our press release to see what the press has to
say and view the ads.
House of Representatives
In House races, SKD won in swing and “red” seats. SKD helped capture a
GOP seat for first-time candidate Frank Kratovil in Maryland CD 1—a rural
district McCain won. In the Philadelphia suburbs, SKD produced the ads
for Patrick Murphy (PA--8), who faced a tough challenger in former Marine
Tom Manion. After winning by just 1500 voters in 2006, Murphy—the only
Iraq war veteran in the Congress—captured 57% of the vote. In March 2008,
Bill Foster shocked the political world with a special election win in
former Speaker Dennis Hastert’s seat (IL-14). Running in November for
a full two year term, Foster outperformed Barack Obama, winning 57% of
the vote. And SKD is proud to have produced the ads for John Dingell (MI-15)
and Earl Pomeroy (ND-At large).
