College students in South Florida were treated to some
star power, a week before Election Day.
Actor Matt Damon of the "Bourne Identity" series stopped
by the University of Miami on Monday to speak to students about early
voting. He's also scheduled to stop by the Hollywood Campaign for
Change office and help lead the Miami March for Change event.
"I'm being paid a fortune," said Damon as he chuckled.
"No, I volunteered to be here and if Obama wins Florida, he wins the
White House, it's that simple."
In Miami Gardens, actress Alfre Woodard, who like Damon
is campaigning for Senator Barack Obama, showed up to help encourage
citizens to vote early. "To see the resolve of Floridians, this is
great, and there is so much to vote for this time," Woodard said.
Sunday night, Damon, along with actresses Kerry Washington
and Alicia Silverstone, appeared at VoteFest '08, an all-day
music festival on Miami Beach, funded by the Miami-Dade Democratic
Party to promote early voting.

The liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org has already proved to be a force
in the campaign to defeat President Bush, but it is about to get a big
infusion of help from Hollywood. MoveOn's Political Action Committee,
MoveOnPac, last week announced that documentary filmmaker Errol Morris
(The Fog of War) will produce a series of campaign ads. The group is
also about to announce that it has enlisted an all-star roster of directors,
writers and Hollywood actors to make ads for the group. One is directed
by Rob Reiner and written by West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin. Another
is directed by indie-film veteran Allison Anders (Gas Food Lodging)
from a script by radio lefty Al Franken. Comedian Margaret Cho wrote
and directed an ad, another stars Danny Glover, and an animated spot
features the voices of Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation), Kevin
Bacon and Ed Asner. Two more ads are in production, one written and
directed by Woody Harrelson and the other starring Alicia Silverstone.

Right after the on-air smack-down between Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie
O’Donnell on The View, Alicia Silverstone was introduced as a
guest, but as she made her way onto the set she completely ignored a
hug for Elisabeth, and hugged everyone else. What work has Silverstone
done lately, um nothing, so the snub must have been for publicity. Rosie’s
rude manners are like an infection that festers in Hollywood. Go back
to oblivion Silverstone, and take Rosie with you.
