Brainerd was an orphan by the age of fourteen, and converted to Christianity during his first year at Yale. His passion caused him to speak out against an unconverted teacher and he was expelled. Brainerd was an American missionary to the Native Americans. He obtained a license to preach and ministered to Indian tribes in Massachusetts, PA and New Jersey.
