What MoveOn.org wanted was for people to submit 30-second ads that were critical of President Bush, but what the liberal-leaning organization got was a controversy over one entry that compared Bush to Adolf Hitler.

The ad in question used a tape recording of the Nazi leader speaking while it showed images of Hitler and German military prowess during World War II. At the end of the ad, a photo of Bush raising his hand to take the oath of office is seen.

"A nation warped by lies. Lies fuel fear. Fear fuels aggression. Invasion. Occupation. What were war crimes in 1945 is foreign policy in 2003," the ad said.

Republican groups and Jewish organizations expressed outrage over the ad, which has been removed from the MoveOn.org Web site.

The anti-Bush website Moveon.org has featured a second potential TV ad comparing President George W. Bush with Adolf Hitler.

The latest ad features images of the German military and dictator with the words "What were war crimes in 1945 is foreign policy in 2003," reports the Drudge Report. The final two frames include Hitler with his hand raised and then a shot of Bush with his hand up taking the oath of office.

Move On is sponsoring a television ad contest for the best anti-Bush spot.

Chances are, Democratic Party consultants won't take credit for the hardest-hitting anti-Bush ad to air on network TV this month. That honor will likely go to MoveOn.org, an online group that has become too potent for establishment politicians to ignore.

In its latest campaign, MoveOn invited people to create their own anti-Bush ads. More than 1,500 entries were submitted, and hundreds of thousands of wired MoveOn members voted for the most effective. The 15 most popular will be judged Monday in New York, and the winning ad will air the same week President Bush gives his State of the Union address.

SAN FRANCISCO — Images of children toiling on a grocery line and in a tire factory coupled with a simple line of text — "Guess who's going to pay off President Bush's $1 trillion deficit?" — paid off for 38-year old Charlie Fisher of Denver, Colorado.

In November, MoveOn invited its members to submit ads that "best tell the truth about President Bush's failed policies." Some 1,500 amateur videographers sent in ideas, which were voted on by MoveOn members.
