Fighting Social Security Privatization
AFSCME position
AFSCME opposes any bill that enacts private accounts and cuts any guaranteed benefits. Any bill that privatizes Social Security is a bad deal for working Americans. Social Security must be strengthened to meet future obligations, but we need to take the time to do it right.
National Budget and Tax Priorities

AFSCME also opposes any proposal that reduces
tax revenues without paying the costs with offsets because it weakens
our nation's ability to invest in the needs of all Americans and it
worsens the already record-sized federal deficit.
The estate tax is a fair and progressive tax and focuses on those most able to pay - the richest one percent of all estates pays almost 50 percent of all estate taxes.
