Jeb is the younger brother of President George W. Bush and the second son of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. He became Secretary of Commerce under governor Bob Martinez in 1987 and was the Republican nominee for governor in 1994, losing to incumbent Lawton Chiles. He was elected the 43rd Governor of Florida in 1998 and is the first Republican to be re-elected to the office of Florida governor.
