Two Americas In America, you have the great benefit of being rewarded for the decisions you make. You have the opportunity to determine the outcome of your future. However, I have witnessed far to many people waste their opportunities. I have seen people waste their opportunity in college by drinking it away. I have witnessed others who have wasted opportunity because they were lazy. I once worked with a nineteen year old girl that had dropped out of high school. She was making $8.50 per hour answering phones in the Customer Service Department and living with her parents. Instead of using the opportunity to get her GED, she wanted her freedom so she moved out of her parents home and married her boyfriend. She was not abused by her parents, she despised her father's lectures about going back to school. More than likely she will be living in poverty her entire life. She had an opportunity to make the right decision and she did not. I can also cite you examples of single men and women who have had numerous children with numerous partners. All of which are struggling, because they did not learn any lessons. I have witnessed two people from the same family given the same opportunities. One chose to go to college and became a successful lawyer. The other dropped out of college and is thirty years old still living at home. I have seen people rise from complete poverty and in one lifetime become millionaires just from the values of hard work, education and discipline. The philosophy of Liberals has always been that you do not have to take responsibility for your own actions, however, you have to take responsibility for every one else's actions. Liberals wish to take money from hard working responsible individuals and give it to those who are irresponsible. Ask yourself- what would America be like if there were no consequences for poor behavior. What if we followed that philosophy in all aspects of society? Should we lower a student's grade that studied hard and received an A and raise a student's grade that did not study and failed? Should we let innocent people who choose to respect the law serve parts of the sentences of individuals that choose to commit crimes? Should we take money from those that work hard and give it to those that choose not to work hard? What incentives would there be to do the things right in life and obey laws if there were no consequences for poor behavior? The result would be that you would place a heavy burden on society. You would place a heavy burden on those who want to live a good and decent life. In America, there is a safety net for the poor that are of sound mind and body. There are government grants, student loans, community colleges, food stamps, limited welfare, unemployment benefits, workers compensation, charitable organizations and government loans. However, liberals don't believe that this is enough. Please note that there are more than enough resources dedicated to the poor when you have the freedom to work and choose. We give away precious resources that should be going to the mentally and physically challenged. However - there is no great push for this cause as there is no large constituency. The poor make up 10% of the population, which translates to approximately 10 million votes after subtracting those not eligible to vote. This only proves that liberals are more motivated by votes than true compassion. Maybe if all kids were taught the message early in life that hard work, education and discipline is needed to succeed in life the problem of two Americas would be solved.
