"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Matthew 23:12 What does this short passage of scripture mean.... Humble- not proud, to lower in pride; to make modest The only way to humble yourself before God and as a Christian is to serve- to unselfishly give of yourself to others... Jesus performed the ultimate example of this on the night of the Last Supper. That night Jesus upon hearing his disciples discussing who would be the greatest or least in Heaven knelt down and began to wash the feet of each of his disciples. As Jesus did this- he said... "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." John 13:15-17 To understand the significance of this act- you must understand that Jesus also washed the feet of Judas. Judas- the one that Jesus knew at the time would betray him to his torture, crucifiction and death. As a Christian- it is your duty to serve... to serve those you may disagree with, not like or even want to harm you. As a Christian you lift yourself up in the eyes of God by lowering yourself in order that you can lift up others... So examine your life.... Your time on this earth is short- but your time after this life lasts for all of eternity... So my question is this.... how high will you climb.... Not by exalting yourself - but by humbling yourself.... How high can you climb?
