A Greater Good vs. a Worse Evil No good person wishes to see a small child cry; however, if a child does something wrong they must be shown the errors of their actions and discipline in the form of a reprimand or time out is sometimes necessary so that poor behavior is not repeated. If a man in a mall is shooting at innocent people with a gun- he might have to be killed in order to prevent the mass murder. There are actions that must be taken sometimes that are harmful, but are necessary to keep order in society as well as to confront evil. There has been evil in the world from the beginning of time to Hitler to the present with husbands murdering their pregnant wives. The doctrine of greater good confronts evil in the world and evil must be confronted or it will rule. What would be the case if evil were not confronted in society? What if there was no punishment for violent crimes or murder? The result would be that crime would be rampant, there would be chaos and the innocent would suffer. People such as Charles Manson, David Berkowitz, Jeffrey Dahmer and Scott Peterson would still be walking the streets to kill more innocent people. Every time someone was not happy in their relationship- they could just kill their spouse. If you disagreed with someone- you could just kill them if there were no consequences. I know that it is sad that some lives are wasted in prison; however, there is a greater good that that results from putting criminals in prison. It serves as an example- so that others are less likely to commit crimes and it also protects the innocent from being harmed. This is an example to the extreme, but the principle of greater good can be applied to all aspects of life. I understand that liberals reading this will have a hard time comprehending this philosophy - so here are some simple questions to illustrate the point: -Should a student be suspended for bringing a gun to school?
The answer to all of these questions is yes. Not all of the actions are evil, but there must be consequences for poor behavior. The consequences for each of these actions is painful, which is fines, suspension and imprisonment. However, they are needed to keep order in society and protect innocent people. Of course the punishment must fit the crime. You cannot execute someone for speeding. I guess the debate is not whether there should be punishment for crimes, but what is the appropriate punishment? Well - punishments have been well established by common law and the courts. Now that we have established that poor behavior and criminal acts should be punished- here are some questions that liberals will not answer. -If it were information that someone was going to blow
up a building- should preemptive action be taken by raiding the person's
home? The answer to all of these questions once again is yes. The reason the answer is yes - is that the consequence of the actions results in a greater amount of lives saved. However- liberals will look at the above acts as no different than the terrorists, killers or kidnappers. It is the reason they compare President Bush to Hitler. If someone breaks into your house kills your wife and then you then kill the intruder are these actions are equal? Of course not! Dare I ask- is the actions taken to remove a brutal dictator that has caused the deaths of millions of people the same as the actions of the brutal dictator? Please note that I am referring to Hitler here! Liberals will ask what about forgiveness and turning the other cheek- isn't that a conservative philosophy? Once again- liberals don't have a grasp of the true issue. These are concepts on a personal level. You must forgive those that do you harm or you will be consumed with hatred. However- society has a duty to confront evil in order to protect the innocent. Please note that the intentions of liberals are good- they are just not well thought out. An example is a question from above- should ransom be denied to kidnappers in order to save a life? You may save one life- but in the end- you will cause more kidnappings and more deaths. If kidnappers know that no ransom would ever be paid- there would be less or no kidnappings. By paying ransom- you only encourage more kidnappings. As previously noted, liberals compare President Bush's action of removing Saddam Hussein from power to Adolf Hitler. Hitler started wars to conquer counties in order to rule and oppress the people. Saddam Hussein started two wars that led to the deaths of millions, gassed his own people and created mass graves filled with his own people. President Bush started two wars to liberate the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. Liberal will say- his intention was not to liberate those people. Well- Hamid Karzi is currently the leader of Afghanistan and Iraq has held free elections. Once again- the liberal ideology is to appease dictators and condemn a greater good. The consequence of not confronting evil creates a worse evil in the world and this is the end result of liberal ideology. There are millions of Americans that have joined the Armed Services because they believe in a greater good. They sacrifice their time, energy, families and sometimes their lives for the hope of achieving a greater good in the world. Liberals just don't seem to have a grasp of this concept. They don't believe that self sufficient people will benefit society. They don't believe that locking violent criminals away for long periods of time will reduce crime or protect the innocent. They don't believe that the end result of freedom will benefit citizens along with the world. Instead, they would rather subsidize people on welfare with no limits, feel sympathy for murderers and appease ruthless dictators while accusing the liberators of evil. It is if they don't believe that actions have a consequence. Why do anything that takes hard work and sacrifice if it does not matter or have a consequence? The old liberal motto was- if it feels good do it! The truth is that our actions do matter as individuals and as a society as a whole. Going to school, studying hard, getting a good job, working hard and raising a family properly matters. It also matters that society confronts evil whether it is locally or somewhere else in the world or evil will rule.
