Mark Foley recently resigned from Congress after it was disclosed that
he sent sexually explicit e-mail's to an under age page. There is no doubt
that Foley should resign. However- I take exception to the politics by
liberals in regards this situation. Liberals are calling for investigations
into what the republican leadership knew.
Lets go over a brief history of Democrat scandals. First there was Gary Condit (Democrat Congressman) - who had an affair with Chandra Levy- an intern from his district who disappeared. Condit lied to the public and the police about his relationship. Condit did not resign, no one in the Democratic party called for him to resign.
Mel Reynolds (Democrat Congressman) was charged with sexually assaulting a minor, child pornography and obstructing justice. However- it was not until after he was convicted on all of these charges that he resigned. Reynolds was subsequently pardoned by Bill Clinton.
Barney Frank (Democrat Senator) admitted to having paid a male prostitute, for sex and subsequently hiring him as his personal assistant. The male prostitute used the Franks' Washington apartment for prostitution. Frank did not resign and was subsequently censured by a Democrat controlled Congress.
Bill Clinton (Democrat president) had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. This did not include e-mails- but actual sexual relations in the oval office. However- there were no Democrats that called for his resignation.
What Foley did was wrong and he should resign for his actions. However- I am writing this to caution about the liberal hypocrisy that you will here as the midterm elections draw near. If liberals would only show the same disdain at the members of their own party when they commit deplorable acts they might be a little more believable as a political party.
