A Great Boom Ahead
The Democratic Presidential candidates are blaming President Bush for a poor economy and the loss of millions of jobs. Some even blamed his tax cuts as the reason. Have they so quickly forgotten what happened on September 11th, 2001? As a result of the acts of terrorism on that day, people stopped flying and tourism, the airlines and the hospitality industry all suffered. This also led to a dowturn in other sectors of the economy, including the financial sector. Finding a job was an almost impossible task. In President Bush's first two and one-half years, we suffered through the attacks on September 11th, anthrax attacks that paralyzed the Postal Service, a beltway sniper, the worst snowstorm in 100 years affecting states from New York to Texas, an energy crises, the worst flooding in 50 years causing billions in damages to four states, corporate scandal with some of the largest corporate bankruptcies in history, and a West Coast port workers strike that lasted for almost two months costing the U.S. a billion dollars a day. We also fought two wars- in Afghanistan and Iraq. When President Bush proposed tax cuts, as a way to jump start the economy, liberals attacked him and tried to block his efforts. However, as a result of the President's tax cuts, the economy grew at its fastest pace in more than twenty years in the third quarter of 2003. In the next few years, the United States will not face obstacles like it had in President Bush's first two years. This along with tax cuts, a country that is more secure and Americans demonstrating a partiality for American products should result in an economic boom that will last for the rest of the Bush Presidency.
