If there were four white male youths, four Asian male youths, or four Puerto Rican male youths walking down the street and it was night and I was alone I would cross the street also and you should to.... Why wouldn't you? I don't go looking for trouble... Along time ago- when I was in my youth.... my girlfriend and I drove down the beach in Ponce Inlet, Florida and parked my car. Now let me tell you- Ponce Inlet is a pretty upscale place with very little crime. As we sat there- in a desolate spot in the dark- a flashlight suddenly shined into the car. It was a policeman. We got out of the car and the policeman told us that it was not safe to sit in a car on the beach at night. He said that we could be a target and three or four people could over power me. He said that I should park in a more lighted and populated location- because it was safer. So please know that crossing the street to avoid four African American
youths if I was alone at night has nothing to do with race. Also- please
know that there are other variables to the situation. If the four youths-
no matter what their race were in suits and ties- I may not cross the
street. Also- if it was the middle of the day and the youths- no matter
what their race - were wearing bandanas and carrying led pipes - I would
probably cross the street. Would you walk down an alley in the middle
of the night by yourself? You could not tell if there was anyone in the
alley, what race they were or if they were even a man or woman there....
but it would be wise to take a safer route! It is common sense... Written by Thomas
