Abu Ghraib - a Football Analogy
Lets say that you are a Green Bay Packers fans and you are in the Super Bowl facing the New England Patriots. During the game the Patriots take cheap shots at Brett Favre, they hit late, intentionally try to hurt players and use all types of dirty tactics to defeat the Packers. As a result - a couple Packers retaliate and take a couple of late shots at the quarterback of the Patriots. However, it is minor as compared to what the Patriots did during the course of the game. As a Packers fan - what would you say about the few late hits? You would probably say that it was pay back and that the Patriots deserved it! What is good for the goose is good for the gander! Do you think that you would hear a Packers fan yelling that the coaches orchestrated the late hits and they should resign? Do you think that you would hear a Packers fan yelling that there should be an investigation to see who at the top of the organization was involved? I doubt you would hear such words from a true Packers fan. However, what if you did? What if a person wearing a Green Bay Packers jersey started yelling these things? That person has the right to freedom of speech. However- you also have the right to think. So what would you think if a Packers fan started yelling such things? What do you think would be the reaction of the Packers fans surrounding this person? I would suggest that most would think that this person has a distorted sense of reality or he was not a true Packers fan. The reaction would probably be to tell this person to take off his Packers jersey and go sit on the Patriots side of the field or leave the stadium.

Now let me take this a step further. What if the Green Bay Packers were not playing the New England Patriots, but a team from North Korea? What if this team from North Korea was not only taking cheap shots at the Packers, but going into the stands and taking cheap shots and hurting the fans including children? As a Packers fan and an American- how angry would you be that a foreign team was intentionally trying to hurt your team as well as innocent American spectators? What if this Packers fan now stood up and started yelling that the coaches should resign and there should be an investigation over a couple of cheap shots? What would you think? You would think that not only is this person not rooting for the Packers- he is not rooting for America.

Throughout history - American prisoners of war have been treated far more severely than America has treated its prisoners of war. American prisoners of war have been tortured, starved to death and executed by their enemies. The treatment of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib by Americans was not right, however, it in no way can be compared to what has happened to Americans who have become prisoners of war. Recently - we have also seen our enemies in the war on terror kidnap and behead civilians not involved in the war. We have seen them even go to the extreme of killing innocent children. Yet- Democrats have been criticizing the Bush administration ever since the story about Abu Ghraib broke. Ted Kennedy stated, "Shamefully, we now learn that Saddam's torture chambers have reopened under new management – U.S. management". Other leading Democrats such as Presidential nominee John Kerry have called for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to resign and also called for an investigation to see who in the Bush administration was involved. Newspapers such as the NY Times have run story after story for months about Abu Ghraib. Can you imagine a Green Bay newspaper running story after story for weeks about a couple of late hits after the opposing team used dirty tactics and attacked spectators during a game. You might read one or two stories- but not much more than that. However- you would probably read many stories in a Chicago newspaper- which is the Packers bitter rival.

The war on terror that America faces today is about the future of this world. It is a battle of life and death and the struggle for freedom. As a result, the consequences are far greater than the outcome of a football game. Draw your own conclusion; however, I submit to you that the leaders of the Democratic Party that criticize the Bush administration over the Abu Ghraib prison scandal have every right to so, but they are not rooting for America. Democrats say that they are exercising their freedom speech and that it is wrong to question their loyalty or patriotism. Please be advised that every decent person has loyalties in their life to the things that matter to them the most. What would you think of a person that had no loyalty to God, family, friends, their home town, their college or even their favorite sports team? You would think they are not a very good person that has no loyalties and only cares about themselves! Liberals say they are not Anti-American- well they certainly have no loyalty to their own country. These leaders of the Democratic Party are placing their party affiliation (self interest) above their own country. They should take off their suits, resign their positions and just go to the side of the enemy where they are already offering comfort.
