Daniel Boone

American Pioneer
(1734-1820)

Inspiring American

Boone was born in a Pennsylvania log-cabin in 1734, son of a weaver and blacksmith. Boone is credited with the exploration and settlement of what is now the state of Kentucky, which at the time was beyond the western borders of the Thirteen Colonies.

Boone was a militia officer during the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), which in Kentucky was fought primarily between settlers and British-allied American Indians.

He was elected to three terms in the Virginia state legislature during the war, (1781, 1784 and 1791)and fought in the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782, one of the last battles of the American Revolution.

Boone founded Boonesborough, a settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Before the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 people entered Kentucky by following his route.
